The Final Destination franchise continues to pump out movies where kill-scenes are abundant, creative, and gruesome; which is enough to keep some of their audience entertained, but most people have grown to think of Final Destination as a repeating headache.

As with every Final Destination film before it, Final Destination 5 starts out with a savior foreseeing the death of everyone and only saving a lucky few who will believe him. At a group funeral, the survivors gather to hear Tony Todd speak of how “Death doesn’t like to be cheated,” as he describes death’s design like a calculating web.

After the shock and awe runs through the survivors, they head into their separate lives where they’re all systematically knocked out of existence by an unseen force. Final Destination 5 was made specifically so directors and producers could show off how twisted their minds are. With death scenes that range from laser eye surgery to acupuncture or gymnastics, the newest in the franchise is creative but lacking because the audience has seen it all before. The plot follows the same plot as the past Final Destination movies, with an ending that borders on disappointing and pointless.

The only new attribute of Final Destination 5 is the 3D action. The death scenes seem a little more real when they’re up-close, in your face, and personal; but several of those scenes lack the anticipation and building fright that the previous movies were packed with. The twist in Final Destination 5 seems to be the homicide aspect. If one of the condemned takes the life of an innocent, death will pass them by. It’s a race to see who will murder or fall victim to death’s manipulation as the movie winds through the typical Final Destination plot lines.
