Genelia D’Souza plays the role of Bharathi, a TV Reporter who comes to the Vijay’s Village.
The Story of “Velayutham” commences in Chennai. The Villain plans to plant bombs in many parts of the City. They abduct a Minister for their mission. They convince the Minister to help in their mission. He also joins hands with them, in planting Bombs and creating terror.
Genelia and her friends are ambitious to cover this bombing incident. These miscreants come to know about the plans of Genelia and her friends. Hence, they kill the other friends of Genelia, and attack her severely. After attacking, as and when, they try to light their Cigar, unexpectedly their vehicle catches fire, and they die.
In this situation, Genelia writes the name of “Velayutham” and conveys her message to the Villain, in the disguised name of Velayutham. Coincidentally, Vijay comes to Chennai to make some arrangements of Money, for her Sister’s Marriage. Some of his activities turn against the Villain. Genelia requests him to become the Savior. But, he does not accept to her request.
Later, one of his friends (Ilavarasu), who invests money with Vijay, in a Chit Company, gets cheated. Unable to bear that, he attempts suicide and dies. This bothers Vijay a lot and from then, he decides to take on the Villain and his miscreants. Villager Velu becomes Super Hero Velayutham.
(*) What all he does to take on the Villains?
(*) Whether he becomes Super Hero or not?
(*) If so, after becoming a Super Hero, what all he does, and how all he destroy the Villains and save thepeople?
The answers of these questions, forms the Crux and the remaining part and Climax of the Story.
In between these happenings, Love blooms between Vijay and Hansika Motwani. Even Genelia too falls in Lovewith Vijay. But, as and when, she comes to know about the Love between Vijay and Hansika; she sacrifices her Love for them. After quite sometime, deep sentimental story between Brother Vijay and Sister Saranya Mohan is featured in a very strong manner.
Vijay has done a very good job in his usual and mass-entertaining style. His dances, actions, sentiments and all are good. Hansika has given a bubbly and attractive performance. Genelia has got considerable amount of scope in this movie, and she has utilized that very nicely. Santhanam’s Comedy is unmatchable and unchallengeable. As a Sister, Saranya Mohan has performed to the most realistic extent. Shayaji Shinde as Villain, threatens us in his usual style. Apart from them, M.S.Baskar, Sathyan, Ilavarasu, Vincent Ashokan, Raaghav and others have given praise-worthy performances.
Vijay Antony has given rocking Music, which is one of the most important attractions, like every other Vijay’s film. Lyrics penned by Viveka, Annamalai, Siva Shanmugam and Priyan are very good. The Songs “Molachu Moonu…”, “Chillax…” and “Sonna Puriyadhu…” are extra special.
Priyan’s Cinematography and V T Vijayan’s editing serves as the added attractions for this movie. It is to be mentioned that, for the first time, Graphics has been used to this huge extent, in Vijay’s movie.
“Velayutham” is touted to be the remake of the Telugu movie “Azad”. It was denied by Director M.Raja. But, he confessed that, this has some elements of it. But, he has made many alterations to suit to the Tamil audiences and has given an interesting presentation. Anyhow, Director M.Raja should be applauded for giving a wholesomeentertaining movie.
Overall, this movie “Velayutham” is sure to be a grand treat to the Vijay’s fans and other audiences in this festive season of Deepavali.
